Creative Writing Minor
The Creative Writing minor is dynamic and flexible, enabling students to explore, develop, and refine their craft across a range of genres.
To graduate with a Creative Writing minor, students must complete 18 semester hours, including the following:
- 12 semester hours from a selection of CW workshop courses (see the full list here)
- 6 semester hours of 2000-4000 level ENG literature courses (see the full list here)
- A grade of “C” or better in courses applied toward the minor
While earning the minor, students may take courses such as Writing from Myth and Other Sources, Writing the Young Adult Novel, and Discourse with the Divine: Contemporary American Spiritual Poetry, as well as introductory and advanced workshops in individual genres. Students are encouraged to choose from a variety of courses in order to create a personalized path that includes both writing workshops and the study of literature.
Our Creative Writing minors develop highly valued skills in harnessing the power of language and story, and have successfully pursued graduate programs or professional careers not only in writing or publishing but also in fields such as business, law, journalism, psychology, and medicine.
