BIO

Dr. Mitchell's main literary interests are in twentieth-century literature on both sides of the Atlantic, with particular interest in Modernist writers, Black writers in the United States, and literature of The Troubles in Northern Ireland. His dissertation explored poetic witness in the poetry of Natasha Trethewey, Seamus Heaney, and Derek Walcott. Outside of the classroom he enjoys writing poetry, loves to watch basketball, and spoils his two cats, Dove (Bombay) and Goose (orange tabby).
